How to add new addresses to your email client using Proton Mail Bridge

With Proton Mail Bridge, you can use all your addresses in the email client as aliases, provided the email client supports this. In most email clients, each address needs to be manually added to allow sending from it.

Once you add an address to your account, you have to manually add it because it won’t appear in the email client automatically.

The email clients which allow sending from additional addresses are the following:

• Classic Outlook on Windows
• Mozilla Thunderbird
• Apple Mail

Note: To send from an address, it first needs to be created on your Proton Mail account.

How to add new addresses to Classic Outlook on Windows

1. Start writing a new message.
2. Select From → Other Email Address and enter your address.

3. Click OK to confirm.

When sending an email, select your Proton Mail account under Send Using, or the messages might not send.

How to add new addresses to Mozilla Thunderbird

1. Go to Menu → Account Settings.
2. Select an account and click Manage Identities at the bottom.

3. Click Add to add your email alias.
4. Enter the necessary details, such as Name and Email Address.
5. Click OK to confirm.

How to add new addresses to Apple Mail

When configuring Apple Mail via Proton Mail Bridge’s setup wizard, all the addresses will be automatically added to your account in Apple Mail, unless you are using Split Address mode.

If you create new addresses, they won’t appear in Apple Mail automatically. Follow the steps below to add them:

1. Click Mail at the top-left.
2. Go to Settings → Accounts → Choose your Proton Mail account.
3. Under Account Information, select Email Address → Edit Email Addresses.
4. Tap + to add a new address.

From the same screen, you can double-click the display name of the addresses and edit it — make sure to click OK to save the chances.

What about adding new addresses on Outlook for macOS?

Outlook macOS does not support adding alias addresses. Instead, enable Split Address mode and configure each address as a separate account in Outlook.
