Albums in Proton Drive give you total control of who sees your photos and videos thanks to our end-to-end encryption(yeni pencere) and secure sharing.

Here’s what you’ll learn in this guide:

How to share an entire album

Here’s how you can share an album using the web, Android, and iOS app:

Web app

Using the Drive web app(yeni pencere), go to PhotosAlbums. You have two ways to share albums:

  • Click next to an album and select Share album.

  • Open an album and select Share below the album name or on the top right.
The Proton Drive web app shows how to share an album

Android and iOS

  1. Go to PhotosAlbums.
  2. Open an album.
  3. Select Share.

Sharing steps (web, Android, iOS)

  1. Enter one or more Proton* email addresses.
  2. Set Viewer or Editor** access.
  3. Optionally include the file name and a message in the invite email.
  4. Click Share.

*At the moment, you can only share albums with other Proton users. Public link sharing is coming soon.

**Editor access lets others add photos to your album, and those photos will count against your storage space. Editors can also remove the photos they’ve uploaded, but they can’t rename the album or change the cover.

How to share a single album photo

You can share a single photo directly from an album via email or sharing link, so you don’t have to go back and search for it in your main photo timeline. It works just like sharing any other photo outside of an album and helps you quickly share only what you need.

Web app

  1. Using the Drive web app(yeni pencere), go to PhotosAlbums.
  2. Open an album.
  3. You have two ways to share a single photo:
  • Select a photo and click Share on the top.

  • Open a photo and click Share.

Android and iOS

  1. Go to PhotosAlbums.
  2. Open an album.
  3. Tap a photo to open it or long-press to select one.
  4. Depending on the platform, you can:
  • On Android: Tap and select Share.

  • On iOS: Select the share button (first one) on the bottom.

Sharing steps

You can share a photo in two ways:

  1. Email invite (web, Android, iOS):
    • Enter one or more email addresses.
    • Set Viewer or Editor access.
    • Optionally include the file name and a message in the invite email.
    • Select Share.

  1. Public link (web, Android):
  • Enable Create public link, copy the link, and share it.

  • Optionally, click the settings icon to set an expiration date or a link password, or to stop sharing and destroy the link. Then click Save changes.

How to view shared albums

Here’s how you can easily access shared albums for quick actions (such as revoking access):

Go to PhotosAlbums:

  • Tap Shared (on the web or iOS app) or Shared by me (on Android) to see albums you have shared. You can revoke access anytime.

  • Tap Shared with me (on the web or iOS app) or Shared with me (on Android) to view albums shared with you. You can easily leave a shared album.

You can also access shared albums from Shared with me (web app) or SharedShared with me (Android) in the main navigation.

How to revoke access to shared albums

Revoking access lets you stay in control of who can view your content. For example, you might want to protect your privacy, especially if the album contains personal or sensitive photos. It’s also useful if you shared it by mistake, the recipient no longer needs access, or your relationship with them has changed.

Web app

  1. Go to Photos Albums Shared.
  2. There are two ways to access album sharing settings:
  • Click next to an album and select Share album.

  • Open an album and select Share next to the album or on the top right.

  1. Select the person’s access (Viewer or Editor).
  2. Choose Remove access.

Android

  1. Go to Photos Albums Shared by me.
  2. Open an album.
  3. Tap on the top right.
  4. Select Manage access.

  1. You have two options:
  • Choose Stop sharing to delete the link and remove access for everyone.

  • Select a person’s email and tap Remove access.

iOS

  1. Go to PhotosAlbumsShared.
  2. Open an album and tap Share.

  1. Select a person’s email address and then Remove access.

How to leave a shared album

You may want to leave a shared album if you no longer need access to its content or if it’s no longer relevant to you — like when a project ends, an event has passed, or you have already downloaded the photos you wanted. Leaving helps declutter your library by removing the albums you no longer want to see.

Leaving a shared album is permanent — you can’t rejoin unless you’re invited again. If the album contains photos uploaded by others that aren’t in your gallery, make sure to save them first. Currently, you’ll be prompted to save those photos before leaving, but only if there are fewer than 100. Support for saving more than 100 shared photos is in development.

Web app

  1. Go to Photos Albums Shared with me.
  2. Open an album.
  3. Click More on the top right and select Leave album.

Android and iOS

  1. Go to Photos Albums Shared with me.
  2. Open an album and tap on the top right.
  3. Select Leave album.
