Using Proton Pass

Some password managers let you share hidden passwords. This means the person you share with can use the password, but they won’t be able to see what it is.

We don’t offer this particular feature. But there is an easy workaround which is more secure.

Why we don’t offer hidden password sharing

Firstly, it’s not a very reliable way to stop someone from seeing your passwords. Even if we don’t reveal your password to a recipient, they can easily expose it. Many websites have a “reveal password” button on their sign in screen, which allows users to see the password they’ve entereed. There are also ways to expose hidden passwords using HTML.

Secondly, recipients can only use hidden passwords on apps and websites that support autofill.

How to temporarily share a Proton Pass login

If you’re on a paid Proton Pass plan, you can send a login to anyone with secure link sharing. You can also add an expiration date to your link.

Once the link expires, just change your password for the account. That way, even if the receipient has saved your password, they won’t be able to sign in anymore.
