Proton

Earlier this week, we launched our brand new homepage which can now be found at proton.me/mail. Since launching Proton Mail 2.0 in August, our team is now hard at work on Proton Mail 3.0 which is scheduled to launch by the end of this year. While Proton Mail 2.0 was a significant improvement over Proton Mail 1.0, we consider it to be more evolutionary than revolutionary. It is only with Proton Mail 3.0 that we will be completely revolutionizing the Proton Mail experience.

With Proton Mail 3.0, the look and feel of Proton Mail will be completely changing. Very influential in these changes is feedback that we received from the Proton Community, such as the inbox design poll we conducted earlier this year. With 3.0, we will be adopting a new design aesthetic inspired by Swiss architecture which emphasizes a modern and clean look. Our new homepage was designed following our new style guide and gives a hint for what is to come.

Functionality wise, the new website resembles the old site, but there are a few important changes. First, you might have noticed the language selector in the upper right. Currently, only English is available, but we are now working on translating the site and hope to offer it soon in a wide range of languages to suit Proton Mail’s international userbase. As the world’s largest secure email provider, our users today come from over 120 countries which shows that encrypted email and privacy are ideas that cross borders. We hope to eventually translate the site into enough languages to cover the vast majority of our userbase.

We have also taken this opportunity to showcase on our site a couple unique aspects of Proton Mail. On our homepage, we now provide a sneak peek at the ultra high security datacenter which houses Proton Mail’s infrastructure. Very few of our users know that Proton Mail’s servers are hidden deep in the Swiss alps under 1000 meters of rock in one of the world’s most secure datacenters. Running our own infrastructure and networks is one of the extra levels of protection we have put in place to increase security. In the near future, we will be releasing more details about our datacenter and giving users an exclusive look at Proton Mail’s infrastructure.

Finally, we have also done a long overdue update of our About page(новое окно). The team at Proton Mail is one of the most important aspects and we have grown a lot since our CERN days. We are lucky to have a very diverse and talented team which has allowed us to accomplish a lot with few people in very little time. We are proud to finally show some of the new members of our team. Thanks to their hard work and your support, we are making private email a reality. If you would like to support this project, feel free to send us a donation, your help allows us to build faster and build more features. And stay tuned for Proton Mail 3.0, and please let us know what you think about our new homepage and blog design in the comments!
