Introducing The New Proton Mail Homepage

With the release of Proton Mail BETA v1.14, our homepage gained a completely a new, fresh look. As with everything we do, the new design was largely driven by user feedback. Back in the Fall of 2014, we presented two designs to our Visionary and Lifetime crowdfunding supporters to get their feedback on the homepage design. The design they selected was one that was made by Synova Solutions(new window) and subsequently offered to Proton Mail free of charge.

The resulting new design was a collaborative project between the Proton Mail team and Synova Solutions’(new window) Swiss and Vietnam based design teams that truly reflects the international nature of the Proton Mail project. Together, we took into consideration all comments which were submitted by our Visionary and Lifetime supporters. One of the most requested features was a way to login directly from the homepage – so we integrated the login form within the top of our homepage itself. Now, logging into Proton Mail is one less click away.

Second, the homepage needed to be easy to navigate. So we redid the navigation across all of Proton Mail outside of the inbox, so it is easier for you to access our new knowledge base, blog, and other pages directly from the proton.me.

Lastly, one great suggestion we received was page that can be easily shared with friends and explains why they should use Proton Mail. We have finally designed such a page which can be found here(new window). It is something that can be easily shared to spread the word about online privacy and why end-to-end encrypted email like Proton Mail is the future of email.

With this latest project completed, we have various other improvements that we plan on releasing soon. On the design front, one item high up on our priority list is redesigning the Proton Mail inbox to have a modern new look. As before, we will be asking our Visionary and Lifetime users for their feedback and making a call for designs soon.

We’d also like to thank the Synova team for supporting Proton Mail and spending countless hours refining the design free of charge. In addition to the homepage, Synova was also kind enough to design the new blog theme that we are now using (also at no charge). We look forward to further collaborating with them on other aspects of the Proton Mail website.

We hope that you’ll enjoy using the new Proton Mail homepage design. Thank you for the support and feedback that you’ve given us – being able to hear directly from our users has been tremendously helpful for our redesign and development. If you have any feedback on the new homepage, please let us know at contact@proton.me.
