Proton Mail is built around a simple idea: You should be able to communicate freely without giving up your privacy. That mission has taken us far beyond email, but our core goal hasn’t changed — to give you tools that put you back in control.
This spring and summer, we’re launching some of the biggest Proton Mail updates yet. With smarter ways to manage your inbox and faster, rebuilt mobile apps, we’re giving you more ways to stay organized and get things done — all while staying firmly in charge of your data.
These updates — like everything we build — are based upon feedback from the Proton community.
What’s next for Proton Mail
Your inbox is more than just emails. It’s where your plans, receipts, memories, and day-to-day responsibilities live. This spring’s updates are designed to help you cut through the noise, stay on top of what matters, and take back control — without compromising your privacy.
Improved Attachments and Category View
Inbox overload is real. Amid all the newsletters, shipping updates, and social notifications, it’s easy for important emails and attachments to get buried. It will be easier to find what you need without a deep dive through your inbox:
- Category View introduces a simple way to organize emails by type — so you can filter out distractions and focus on what matters. You decide which categories appear, which count toward your unread count, and which send you notifications.
- Attachments View shows you all the files you’ve received — from receipts to important documents — in one place. And if it’s something you want to keep? You can save it directly to Proton Drive without leaving your inbox.
Manage newsletter subscriptions
It’s easy to sign up for newsletters — managing the flood of emails that follows is much harder. Our new subscription management feature will help you stay on top of everything in one place so you can:
- Track all your subscriptions.
- Unsubscribe from newsletters you don’t read.
- Set rules for newsletters you want to keep receiving — like automatically moving them to a folder or marking them as read.
It’s never been easier to clear the clutter.
New iOS and Android apps
We’re rebuilding our mobile apps from the ground up with a faster, more extensible architecture. This new foundation unlocks useful features, including:
- Offline mode
- Advanced message search
- Improved stability and faster performance
Internal testing is already underway, and we’re on track to launch both apps this summer.
What’s next for Proton Calendar
We’re also continuing to refine Proton Calendar — especially our iOS app. This spring, we’re improving the Calendar experience for everyone with an iPhone or iPad by adding:
- Improved iPad support
- Edit access for shared calendars
- A compact home screen widget for quick scheduling
Alongside these updates, we’re also ramping up development on a faster and more stable next-generation calendar app for both iOS and Android to support much-requested features like tasks, search capabilities, and offline access.
What’s next for Proton Mail for Business
Small teams and organizations will have new solutions that make it easy to use a custom domain and comply with regulatory requirements.
Create organizations without a custom domain
Not every small business owns or manages a custom domain. Soon, teams will be able to set up Proton Mail accounts using Proton subdomains — no domain setup required.
Retention policy
Business users will also be able to define how long they retain emails to simplify compliance with different industries’ regulatory requirements.
