Proton has released a new video featuring CEO Andy Yen and team members from across the company answering a question you may have wondered yourself: What is Proton’s mission?
Big Tech has become a threat to democracy worldwide, taking personal data and selling it out with little regard for consent, and Proton was built as the alternative: encryption across every product, from Mail to VPN to Pass to Docs to Calendar, so data stays unreadable to anyone in the middle, including Proton itself.
Subscribers fund the business, which funds free tiers for people who need them most, from Hong Kong activists to Ukrainians turning to Proton VPN as Russia tightened its grip on information. None of this is incidental: Proton’s largest shareholder is a nonprofit foundation legally bound to a mission of privacy, security, and democracy in service of the public good.
Watch the video below to hear Andy and the team explain that mission in their own words.
