Proton seeks to avoid working with anyone whose views do not align with our values. There are many diverse opinions within our company, but there is no room for Nazi ideology or Holocaust denial, and we reject the promotion of hate and all forms of supremacist thinking.

Our mission is nonpartisan. We believe in making privacy the default, for everyone, because we believe that privacy is essential to free speech, and that free speech is essential to democracy.

Fulfilling such an important mission requires us to reach as many people as possible. That’s why we engage with a variety of online creators representing a broad spectrum of views. Some of those views are political.

We screen the creators we work with, but given the wide range of markets, languages, and political environments in which Proton operates, we, or the third-party agencies that work with us, may occasionally make mistakes. (The vast majority of Proton affiliate links are automatically generated and available to any Proton user, so no screening is possible.)

To work with Proton, a creator must comply with Article 261bis of the Swiss Criminal Code, which makes it illegal to incite hatred, discriminate, or spread supremacist ideologies. It also prohibits denying, trivializing, or justifying genocide and other severe crimes against humanity, and it explicitly bans discrimination and hate speech based on sexual orientation.

If you encounter a creator promoting Proton who appears noncompliant, please email us at influencers@proton.ch, and provide as much information as possible about who they are, where you found them, and why you believe them to be objectionable. We will acknowledge your submission and investigate whether they have violated our rules and should be dropped. (Note that some creators’ agreements are long term and cannot be ended until they expire.) Please pay attention to your inbox in case we need to ask follow-up questions.

To be clear, this policy does not extend to people who merely invite others to sign up via a Proton referral or affiliate link. Anyone can obtain such links through an automated process, and this occurs without oversight. We do not control who uses these links and do not necessarily endorse any views that they may hold.
