Proton Wallet

If you hold bitcoin in a self-custodial wallet and you have the wallet seed phrase(nueva ventana), you can quickly and easily import that wallet into your secure Proton Wallet.

We recommend doing this mainly to recover wallets, including wallets you created on Proton Wallet before and deleted. Import is generally not recommended for duplicating a wallet from another wallet service. This is because if your seed phrase or keys are leaked from the other wallet service, then your imported wallet on Proton will also be at risk.

If you just want to fund your Proton Wallet, we recommend sending BTC to your Proton Wallet receive address(nueva ventana). While this requires paying the Bitcoin network fee, it will be more secure and keep your wallets separated.

How to import your wallet

Open the Proton Wallet app on your mobile device or open your browser and go to wallet.proton.me(nueva ventana). Then follow the steps below:

  1. From the homepage, go to your left menu bar and select the + button next to the Wallets section. This will bring up a pop-up window.
  2. Select Import wallet.

You will need to fill out a wallet name, currency, the wallet seed phrase, and the passphrase (if the wallet had one) on the next window. Then click or tap Import.

Note: Proton Wallet supports wallets with BIP39 compatible seed phrases only.

If the import was successful, you should see the wallet in the left sidebar and one account under it (of address type Native SegWit and index 0). If you want to recover more accounts for this wallet, you have to add accounts(nueva ventana) using their address type and index.

Imported wallets count toward the maximum number of wallets that come with your Proton Wallet subscription plan.
