How is Proton Authenticator different from other authenticator apps?

Proton Authenticator gives you the flexibility to access your codes cross-platform, sync codes easily, and create backup codes so you never lose access. The app is also entirely open-source so anyone can verify what we say about Proton Authenticator is true.

Do you need to have a Proton Account to use Proton Authenticator?

You don’t need to have a Proton Account to use Proton Authenticator. If you want to sync your codes across Apple devices, you can do this using iCloud. If you want to sync your codes across Windows, Linux, or Android devices you’ll need to create a Proton Account. Proton Authenticator is entirely free.
