Proton Mail referral program
Introducing your friends and family to Proton helps us create a safer internet. Besides, our security and privacy features work best when you communicate with people who also use Proton Mail.
So we’ve introduced a referral scheme to thank you for helping others discover Proton.
When you refer a friend, they’ll get a free month of Proton Mail Plus. If they subscribe after their free trial, you’ll get up to $90 of credits toward your subscription.
Currently, you can refer friends if you have a Proton Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, Proton Family, or Proton Visionary plan.
How to refer a friend
1. Invite your friends to Proton Mail
You can find your referral link in your account settings(nueva ventana) on the web app.
2. They get a free month of Proton Mail Plus
Make sure they use your referral link when they sign up!
3. If they subscribe after their free trial, you’ll get Proton Mail credits
Once their free trial is over, you’ll get:
- $5 if they subscribe for a month
- $15 if they subscribe for 12 months or longer
You can refer as many people as you like, but the maximum referral credit you can earn is $90.
Turn your email signature into savings
If you’re eligible for the Proton Mail referral program, you can include your referral link in your email signature. This allows your contacts to discover Proton Mail, and you’ll be rewarded when they subscribe.
To include your referral link in your email signature:
1. Log in to your Proton Account at account.proton.me.
2. Click Settings → All settings → Proton Mail → Identity and addresses → Display name and signature, and turn on the Proton Mail footer switch (if you haven’t already).
This adds “Sent with Proton Mail secure email” as the last line of your footer to each email you compose.
3. Go to Settings → All settings → Account → Refer a friend, and turn on Add link to your email footer to add your referral link to your signature.
This adds your personal referral link to “Proton Mail” in your signature.
If anyone clicks on the link and subscribes to Proton Mail after their free trial, you’ll be rewarded under the referral program.
Referral program FAQs
How can I enter the referral program?
The program is open to anyone with a Proton Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, Proton Family, or Proton Visionary plan with no arrears on their account. Additionally, your subscription must be paid in Euros (EUR), US Dollars (USD), or Swiss Francs (CHF) to be eligible.
Where can I find my referral link?
You can find your referral link by going to your referral dashboard on the web.
If you’re using the Proton Mail app for iPhone or iPad, open the hamburger menu at the top left and tap Refer a friend.
My referral link uses “pr.tn”. What’s that?
We’re using the pr.tn domain to provide shorter referral links that are easier to share. It’s safe to use and will simply redirect your friends to a personalized signup page.
I referred someone, but they forgot to use my referral link. Can I still get credits?
Sadly no. Your referee must use your referral link when they sign up. If they have trouble using your link, contact our customer support team immediately.
Can I invite friends who have used Proton Mail before?
No. You’ll only get credits from referring people who have never used Proton Mail before.
How many people can I refer?
You can refer as many people as you like, but the maximum referral credit you can earn is $90.
Can I just post my referral link online?
The referral program works best when you share your link with friends and colleagues rather than strangers. If you share your link online, be mindful of the guidelines or rules of the site you post it on, and avoid bulk mailing or spamming.
How can I track my invites and rewards?
You can track your invites and rewards in your referral dashboard (or by signing in to your Proton Account at account.proton.me and going to Settings → All settings → Refer a friend).
You’ll also receive an email when someone you’ve referred subscribes to a paid plan.
I see that I’ve received 4.99 credits instead of 5 in my account. Why?
Credits are based on the actual pricing of our Mail Plus plan, which is 4.99 in all supported currencies. For clarity, we’ve rounded this amount to 5 wherever communicated.
When will I get my credits?
Your credits will be automatically applied to your next month’s bill.
Can I exchange my credits for cash?
No. You can only use your credits on your Proton Mail subscription.
What happens to my credits if I change my subscription plan?
Currently, you can refer friends when you’re on our Proton Mail Plus, Proton Unlimited, Proton Family, or Proton Visionary plans.
If you change your subscription plan, you won’t be able to use the referral scheme anymore. But you’ll still be able to redeem any credits you’ve already earned.
