Proton Mail or Proton VPN appeared on my payment records
This article explains what Proton Mail and Proton VPN are, why one of them appeared on the payment records of your credit card or PayPal account, and what you can do if you did not make this payment.
What is Proton Mail?
Proton Mail is the world’s largest encrypted email service. It protects the emails of millions of citizens and organizations around the world, including many journalists and activists.
What is Proton VPN?
Proton VPN(nouvelle fenêtre) is a no-logs, open-source virtual private network (VPN) provider. It enables millions of citizens and organizations around the world, including many journalists and activists, to bypass online censorship.
Why did you charge me?
If you receive a receipt with the descriptor “PROTONMAIL” or “PROTONVPN” it means your payment method (credit card or PayPal) was charged because you purchased a paid Proton plan. The descriptor you see will depend on whether you purchased a Proton Mail plan, a Proton VPN plan, or a bundle plan (bundle plans have the descriptor “PROTONMAIL”).
Subscriptions renew automatically every month, every year, or every two years, depending on your billing cycle. Your support enables us to build a better internet where privacy is the default. Thank you.
You can cancel or adjust your subscription at any time by logging into your account at account.proton.me or account.protonvpn.com.
Don’t remember making this purchase?
If you don’t recall making this purchase (and neither do any family members and/or colleagues), you should report the purchase as fraudulent to us at Proton.
We will investigate the claim. If it is confirmed as fraudulent, we will issue a refund to the payment service you used.
I think I was charged the wrong amount.
Please reach out to us so we can look into this for you. You can write to our Support team(nouvelle fenêtre) (or our VPN Support team(nouvelle fenêtre) if you have a Proton VPN plan).
