Using Bridge

When using Proton Mail Bridge, emails exchanged between your Proton Mail account and other Proton Mail accounts while using Bridge are end-to-end encrypted(nova janela), just like they are in our web and mobile apps.

Emails sent to non-Proton Mail accounts are not end-to-end encrypted by default, but your emails are protected by zero-access encryption while on our servers. To use end-to-end encryption when sending from your Proton Mail account to non-Proton Mail accounts, you can use our Password-protected Emails(nova janela) feature in our web and mobile apps. If you have PGP encryption(nova janela) configured with a contact, Bridge will use those settings.

Bridge stores the emails on your device in an encrypted format. However, the email client you are using can store the emails locally unencrypted. For this reason, it’s important to protect your device(nova janela).

If you have heightened security concerns, we also recommend encrypting your hard drive. Learn how to encrypt drive’s on Windows(nova janela) macOS(nova janela) , and Linux(nova janela).
