Import files from Dropbox to Proton Drive
If you’re looking for a trustworthy alternative to Dropbox, Proton Drive protects your files with end-to-end encryption on all plans. Your files stay private by default, accessible only to you and the people you decide to share them with— not third parties, not advertisers, not even Proton.
Proton Drive also supports transfers without file size limits, making it easier to send large files. This guide explains how to make the switch from Dropbox.
Download your files from Dropbox
- Go to https://www.dropbox.com/(fereastră nouă) and sign in to your account.
- Navigate to Home → All files.
- Check the box next to Name to select all files and folders.
- Click Download.

- Once the download finishes, unzip the files on your computer. Find out how to unzip files on Mac(fereastră nouă) and Windows(fereastră nouă).
Import files to Proton Drive
You can upload your Dropbox files to Proton Drive using either the desktop app or the web app. The desktop app is better suited for large uploads and multiple files, as it handles network interruptions by resuming transfers automatically.
Desktop (Windows, macOS)
On macOS: Open Finder, then drag and drop your unzipped Dropbox files into Proton Drive.

On Windows: Open File Explorer, then drag and drop your unzipped Dropbox files into Proton Drive → My files.

Upload time depends on file size and quantity. You can check the sync status in the Proton Drive app on macOS or Windows to confirm when the upload is complete.
Web app
Go to https://drive.proton.me/(fereastră nouă) and sign in to your Proton Account.
Then, upload your files by dropping your Google Drive files into Proton Drive or by selecting the Upload (⬆️) button to choose files or folders from your computer.
Uploading may take some time, especially for large files or numerous files. You can monitor the upload progress in the web app.
What next?
Once your files are stored in Proton Drive, you can safely remove them from Dropbox and delete your Dropbox account.
If you’re looking for an alternative to Dropbox Passwords (discontinued on October 28, 2025), you can move your passwords to Proton Pass — our end-to-end encrypted password manager — to keep your accounts safe.
