If you have a paid Proton plan, you can choose up to five contacts who can gain access to your account in the event of an emergency.

To set up the Emergency Access feature, just follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Proton Account → Select Recovery → Click Add emergency contact.

How to access an account in an emergency

Once added, your contact will automatically become a trusted contact. They’ll receive an email notification informing them they’ve been designated as an emergency contact.

In their Proton Account settings, in the Recovery tab, they’ll see your name listed under People who trust me. From there, they can request access if needed by selecting Request access.

You’ll receive an email notifying you that your trusted contact has requested access. You can approve or deny access immediately from your Proton Account. If you don’t take any action, your trusted contact will automatically receive access after the wait time you set.
