The 2025 Lifetime Account Charity Fundraiser was our best year yet, generating over $1.27 million to directly support organizations defending privacy, free expression, and a freer internet.
We’ve held this fundraiser every year since 2018, and each year the impact that we make together has been increasing. But this year, we brought in $1,073,800 from over 100,000 tickets sold to more than 50,000 participants. We’re donating a further $200,000, bringing the total donation amount to $1,273,800, reaching a new record for our yearly charity fundraiser. After adding the 2025 total, our total charitable contribution over the last eight years is more than $5 million.
This would not have been possible without you. The Proton community is building a global movement that is fighting for everyone’s digital rights. Your belief that a better internet and a better future are possible is changing the globe.
Important note on ticket numbers
We’re aware that some participants had issues with duplicate ticket numbers. This was caused by an issue with the third-party app we used to generate raffle ticket numbers and has now been fixed. We have sent an email to all raffle participants with instructions on how to check your ticket numbers online.

Together, we have now contributed over $5 million in grants to aligned organizations. But your impact goes far beyond financial contributions. With your help, Proton also:
- Provides free access to our services in regions where privacy is under threat
- Supports open-source projects that protect freedom online
- Leads efforts to resist online surveillance and censorship
This collective impact is only possible because of you. Thank you for standing with us and with everyone working toward a better internet.
You’re supporting a better internet
Your support makes a real impact, and this year’s beneficiaries wanted to tell you what your support means.
On behalf of the European Digital Rights (EDRi) – the largest European network of more than 50 civil rights groups defending and advancing rights and freedoms online – I would like to say how immensely grateful we are for being included in the 8th edition of the Proton’s Lifetime Fundraiser.
Support from the global Proton community will significantly strengthen EDRi’s resilience in times of global geopolitical uncertainty, empowering us to advocate for robust laws and promote a healthy and accountable technology market. It also enables us to fight for strong encryption and build a growing movement dedicated to safeguarding digital rights in an increasingly connected world.
Amber Sinha, Executive Director
Digitale Gesellschaft(новое окно)
As a Swiss membership organisation for civil liberties in a digitally connected world, we particularly appreciate that the Proton community has nominated us as beneficiaries. Our active members in over 50 specialist groups determine our activities. We inform and advise individuals and institutions on consumer and legal issues in the digital space, assess the potential impact of technology on fundamental and human rights, and offer services, software projects and workshops on digital self-defence.
Erik Schönenberger, Co-director
We want to thank the Proton community for this generous gift. Together we strive towards the same goal: an open, resilient and secure internet that provides user autonomy and digital freedom for everyone. NLnet plays its part by giving small grants to free and open source projects that contribute to the digital commons. Your donation enables us to support more people to come work for the internet.
Michiel Leenaars, Director of Strategy
Amidst the rapid rise of AI-generated content, WITNESS is dedicated to supporting people around the world use video and technology to protect and defend human rights. The generous support from Proton allows us to continue to support frontline voices by providing direct training on AI detection, distributing tailored resources on verification techniques, and advancing systems-level change to ensure that AI and emerging technologies and policies work for – and not against – human rights. On behalf of our team and allies, thank you to the Proton community for your support and partnership.
Sam Gregory, Executive Director
Proton and Hack Club share a belief that the future of technology should be built by people who care—about freedom, transparency, and doing the right thing. This fundraiser will help thousands of teenagers gain hands-on engineering experience while internalizing the importance of privacy and open systems. We’re honored to partner with the Proton Foundation to make that future possible.
Christina Asquith, Co-founder
The Center for Humane Technology(новое окно)
The Center for Humane Technology is honored to be included in the Proton Foundation’s annual fundraiser. As a small nonprofit working at the front lines to build a more humane future with technology, these funds will help power our efforts to confront the emerging harms of AI by building deeper public understanding, mobilizing demand for change, and advancing policies and norms that put human well-being at the center of our technological future.
Daniel Barcay, Executive Director
Transparency International(новое окно)
On behalf of Transparency International, the global movement working in more than 100 countries to fight corruption, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to Proton and everyone who has contributed to the raffle. When corruption is not held in check, people pay the price. Mismanaged public funds lead to poor-quality services and economic crises, contributing to poverty and inequality. Authoritarian governments suppress independent voices such as NGOs and journalists, instead of being accountable to their citizens. Your generous support comes at a time when in many parts of the world we are seeing corruption risks increasing. It will help us to continue our work to hold power to account for the common good by pushing for reforms and promoting the highest standards of transparency, accountability and integrity.
Maíra Martini, Chief Executive
Lighthouse Reports(новое окно)
At Lighthouse Reports we’re hugely grateful to be part of this year’s fundraiser. As an investigative journalism team seeking to interrogate abuses of power by companies and governments we see huge alignment with Proton and its community. Getting direct support from that community is an honour and a great reminder of who we do this work for.
Daniel Howden, Founder and Director
Open Markets Institute(новое окно)
Until we reform the monopoly power and destructive business models of the corporations that today dominate online communications and commerce, neither the internet nor AI will be safe for democracy, free speech, reliable news and information, or fairness for business. At the Open Markets Institute, we are helping policymakers in Europe and the U.S. understand and adopt the tools to master these modern monopolies and protect our freedoms. We are deeply grateful to Proton for their partnership in this critical work.
Barry Lynn, Executive Director
The Insider is honored to have been selected as a beneficiary of this year’s Proton Lifetime Account Fundraiser. For millions of Russians The Insider remains one of the small number of independent media outlets that continues to confront Kremlin propaganda by providing verifiable information that contradicts state-media narratives on a range of subjects, including: Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, government censorship, political repression, the state of the economy, and discrimination against national, religious, and sexual minorities.
Roman Dobrokhotov, Editor-in-Chief
This is still just the beginning
Thank you for making 2025 a record-breaking year. The success of this fundraiser is a testament to what we can achieve together. The Proton community didn’t just support a cause — you powered real impact, funding organizations that defend rights, protect privacy, and challenge the status quo.
We’re beyond grateful for your support and your belief in our mission. Because together, we’re not just building tools, we’re building a future where the internet protects and empowers everyone.
