Troubleshooting sign-in issues
Having trouble signing in to your Proton Account? These fixes should solve most login problems.
Check your password
Click the eye (reveal password) icon next to the password field to make sure there are no mistakes.

- Passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure you haven’t turned on Caps Lock by accident.
- If you’re using copy/paste, check you haven’t pasted any extra spaces with the password.
- If you have more than one Proton Account, make sure the password you entered is for the right account.

See if there’s an issue with your browser extensions
Here’s how to check if one of your browser extensions is stopping you from signing in to Proton:
- Try signing in with private browsing or incognito mode enabled.
- If that works, go back to normal browsing and disable your extensions one at a time, signing in after each one to identify which extension is causing the issue.
Known issues with browser extensions:
- Random Agent Spoofer: “Disable Authorization headers” must be unchecked to use Proton Mail
Change your browser or device

Check your username
- If you have a Proton Mail email address: Enter your username (eric.norbert) or your full email address (eric.norbert@proton.me).
- If you have a non-Proton email address: Enter your full email address (eric.norbert@example.com). You won’t be able to sign in with just your username.
- If you have an older account: Your email address might end in protonmail.ch (instead of protonmail.com or proton.me). Check you’ve entered the correct domain, or try signing in with just your username.

Try signing in without autofill
Disable your password manager and type in your password manually.
Some password managers do not work with Proton services — especially if you’re using two-password mode.
Two-factor authentication (2FA) issues
Check your device time: If the time on your phone or computer is incorrect, 2FA might not work properly.
Use a recovery method: If your security key or authenticator app is lost or not working, you can sign in with a recovery code (provided when you set up 2FA) or another recovery method.
