How to upload and download files using Proton Drive mobile apps

Proton Drive mobile apps let you conveniently upload, access, share, and download files from your iPhone/iPad or Android phone or tablet.

This article explains how to upload files to Proton Drive, how to download files from Proton Drive to your device, and how to make files and folders available offline so you can access them even when you’re not connected to the internet.

Download and open Proton Drive

1. Go to your device’s app store and search for Proton Drive.
2. Install the app and open it to see your main Proton Drive files screen.
3. You can always return to this screen by selecting Files at the bottom of your screen or My files from your settings menu (≡).

iOS

Upload a file

1. Tap (+) at the top right.
2. To add a file from Files, select Import file. Tap on a file to upload it to Drive.
3. To add a file from Photos, select Upload a photo. Select the desired file(s). Tap Add to upload.

Upload a new photo or video from your camera

1. Tap (+) at the top right.
2. Select Take new photo from the menu.
3. Take or retake photos or videos as needed.
4. Tap Use Photo or Use Video to upload it to Drive.

Download a file to your device

1. Tap on the file name to open it.
2. Tap the share icon.
3. Select Save to Files from the menu.
4. Select where you want to save your file.
5. Tap Save to download.
6. From the menu, you can also Save Image if you want to download an image to Photos.

Make a file/folder available offline

1. Tap on the three dots icon next to the desired file or folder.
2. Select Make available offline.
3. A small download symbol (↓) under the file or folder name indicates it’s available offline. (Only in list view.)
4. To access, tap the hamburger menu (☰) on the top left, which opens the settings sidebar. Select Available offline.

Android

Upload a file in Android

1. Tap (+) at the top right or Add files.
2. Select Upload a file.
3. Tap on a file to upload it to Drive.
4. For multiple files, select the files you want. Tap Select to upload them all.

Upload a new photo from your camera

1. Tap (+) at the top right or Add files.
2. Select Take a new photo from the menu.
3. Take or retake the photo as needed.
4. Tap the checkmark to upload it to Drive.

Download a file to your device

1. Tap on the three vertical dots next to the file name.
2. Select Download from the menu.
3. Tap Save to download.

Make a file/folder available offline

1. Tap on the vertical three dots next to the desired file or folder.
2. Select Make available offline.
3. A small download symbol (↓) under or next to the file or folder indicates it’s available offline.
4. To access, tap the hamburger menu (☰) on the top left, which opens the settings sidebar. Select Available offline.
