Two-factor authentication (2FA) is not working
In most cases, 2FA fails because the time on each device is not synchronized. For 2FA to function properly, the date and time on the device on which you are logging in to Proton Mail must be exactly the same as those of the device where you receive your 2FA code.

How to switch to two-password mode
New accounts are set to one-password mode by default. This password is used both for login (to verify the identity of the user and access the account) and for the mailbox (to decrypt data). It is still possible, however, to switch to two-password mode from the Settings -> Account page.
