What is Proton Meet’s chat feature?
Proton Meet has a live chat feature where both hosts and participants can exchange instant messages and links during a call. It’s a simple way to share information without interrupting the conversation or screen sharing.

How does it work?
To view and send live chat messages, just select the Chat 💬 button in the navigation bar.
Here are a few more things you should know:
- Messages are visible to everyone in the call.
- Messages are protected using messaging-layer security (MLS), which provides end-to-end encryption (E2EE). Learn about Proton Meet’s security model(nouvelle fenêtre).
- Chat history is only available during the meeting. If you need to keep any information shared in chat, make sure to copy and paste it somewhere before leaving the call.
- When the chat panel is closed, new messages briefly appear on the screen.
- If you’re sharing your screen using picture-in-picture mode, new chat messages will briefly pop up on your screen so you don’t miss them while presenting.
- You can search for participants in the chat panel to quickly find people in the meeting.
- You can react to messages with emojis to respond without interrupting the conversation (on the desktop and web apps).
