We’re updating our Proton Pass Plus subscription to include new alias features, including: custom domains for aliases, additional mailboxes, the ability to send emails from aliases, and more. These features are available in SimpleLogin, an open source email alias solution owned by Proton and which provides the email aliases function in Proton Pass.
While Proton Pass Plus already offers unlimited email aliases, the functionality is limited to creating aliases when signing up for new accounts and replying to emails sent to that alias.
Advanced functionality, such as using your email alias to send an email to someone who hasn’t contacted you before, hadn’t been possible: for example, you couldn’t request help from a customer service team using an alias, preventing you from hiding your personal email address. To be able to use such an advanced alias feature, you had to have a SimpleLogin Premium subscription.
We’re now integrating the advanced alias features available in SimpleLogin into our Proton Pass Plus subscription, so you won’t need to maintain two different subscriptions.
To reflect the new functionality we’ve added, the price for a Pass Plus subscription for new users is now $2.99/m on a 12-month plan (billed at $35.88). Starting today:
- If you already have Pass Plus, you’ll gain access to new premium SimpleLogin features but your subscription won’t be affected by this price increase. Your plans will remain $1.99/month or $1/month for early adopters.
- For everyone else, the price for Pass Plus is now $2.99/m for a 12-month plan.
Why we’re combining Pass Plus and SimpleLogin Premium
Thanks to high user adoption and support, Proton Pass has grown beyond our expectations. Many members of the SimpleLogin community also use Pass, and we often hear from the Proton community that they want more control of their aliases. This could include using their own domain for an alias, setting up several mailboxes to share an alias, or sending an email to a new contact from an alias.
Until now, SimpleLogin Premium and Pass Plus have been separate subscriptions. To create a smoother experience, a Pass Plus subscription now includes SimpleLogin Premium, allowing everyone with a Pass Plus plan to benefit from SimpleLogin’s advanced aliases features.
The two subscriptions are now consistent: Pass Plus will include SimpleLogin Premium, and SimpleLogin Premium now includes Pass Plus.
How to link your SimpleLogin and Proton Pass accounts
Now that Pass Plus and SimpleLogin Premium features are shared, it’s easy to benefit from both by paying for one subscription.
If you have a Proton Pass Plus subscription, you’ll be able to log into SimpleLogin app(new window) using your Proton account.
If you have a SimpleLogin account and you’re not already using Proton Pass, create a new free account. Make sure you use the same email address that you log into your SimpleLogin account with, so the aliases sync automatically out of the box. You can also explicitly link your Proton Pass account to SimpleLogin one on the SimpleLogin dashboar(new window)d.
If you already have both SimpleLogin Premium and Proton Pass subscriptions, you can now cancel one of your subscriptions.
For now, you’ll need to switch between Proton Pass and SimpleLogin to use advanced alias features. In the next version of the Pass apps, you’ll be able to use these advanced alias features directly from Proton Pass.
Thank you for your support of SimpleLogin and Proton Pass. Without your support, we wouldn’t have been able to grow so quickly. Following this adjustment, we can offer more premium features to everyone and develop new features faster. We hope you enjoy using SimpleLogin and Pass Plus more effectively together.
