How to host a Proton Meet call
- Lecture
- 2 minutes
With Proton Meet, you can create meeting rooms and host secure, end-to-end encrypted calls with friends or collaborators. In addition to regular conferencing features like screen sharing and meeting chats, hosts can end meetings, mute other participants, and remove participants from calls.
Whoever creates a call automatically becomes the call host.

Start a call and invite participants
- Go to meet.proton.me/dashboard(nouvelle fenêtre) and select Create meeting → Start instant meeting.

- Set microphone and camera permissions.
- Enter your name and click Start meeting.

- Once the meeting starts, a secure meeting link will automatically be generated. Select Copy link and close, and then you can share the link with your participants. Anyone with the link can join, even if they don’t have a Proton Account.

End a call
To end a meeting, go to the navigation bar and select Leave. As the host, you have two options:
- End meeting for all: Closes the meeting room and ends the call for all participants.
- Leave meeting: Exits the call without closing the meeting room. Other participants will remain on the call.

If you leave a meeting by mistake or change your mind, you can rejoin it by clicking Rejoin meeting.

Moderate a call
Hosts can use call moderation features to control who can join a meeting and how participants interact. This helps keep meetings private, focused, and free from disruptions.
Lock a meeting
Select Settings ⚙️ and toggle on Lock meeting.

Once the meeting is locked, anyone who tries to join will see a message saying that they need to contact the host to join. The host can always leave and rejoin even if the meeting is locked.
Unlock a meeting
To allow new participants to join again, go back to Settings ⚙️ and turn off Lock meeting. New joiners will be able to enter the meeting immediately.
Only hosts can lock or unlock a meeting.
Mute a participant or turn off their camera
- Go to the navigation bar and select Participants 👥
- Click the vertical ellipsis ⋮ next to a person’s name.
- Select Mute participant or Disable video.

Only the meeting host can mute other participants.
For privacy reasons, hosts can’t unmute participants or turn their camera on.
Remove a participant from a meeting
- Open Participants 👥.
- Click the vertical ellipsis (⋮) next to a person’s name.
- Select Kick out [participant].

Removing a participant immediately disconnects them from the call. But if your meeting room is unlocked, they may rejoin. To prevent unwanted participants from rejoining, remember to lock your meeting room.
Hosts on paid Proton Meet plans can also record meetings.
