The Proton Drive web app allows you to preview some file types without opening them, letting you quickly find the file you’re looking for. To find the file type, look at the end of of the file name; the letters after the period (.) in the file name tell you what type of file it is. Below we list all the file types you can preview:
Image file types
- ICO (including image/x-icon and image/vnd.microsoft.icon)
- WebP (depending on your browser)
Video file types
All video file types (including MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, WMV, and more) as long as the movie file is not larger than 100 MB
Text file types
- Most text file types (including TXT, DOCX, and more — but not RTF)
- All MIME types and applications
- All TypeScript types
Previewable files on iOS
In addition to the file types listed above, anyone using the Proton Drive iOS app can also preview file types such as iWork and Microsoft Office documents, Live Photos, etc.
This is because iOS devices use Apple’s Quick Look framework to allow users to preview and perform basic interactions on certain file types.
For a complete list of files you can preview with Quick Look, visit this page(new window).
At present, these previews are exclusive to the Proton Drive iOS app.
