Proton Drive files are stored in our secure cloud, hosted on servers we own and operate in Switzerland, Germany, and Norway. All disks are fully encrypted, and because we are incorporated and based in Switzerland, your data is protected by Swiss privacy laws.
We use end-to-end encryption on all our files, meaning nobody, not even Proton, can access your files at any time. We believe in security through transparency, so our code is open source and independently audited. Anyone can verify and trust our encryption.
Yes, you can use up to 5 GB of storage on Proton Drive for free. Free accounts are subsidized by subscribers who support our mission and benefit from premium features and even more storage.
Sharing files with Proton Drive is easy. Just select the file you want to share, click share, and select the email address of the person you want to share the link with. You can password protect the link, or even set expiry dates if you’d like.
