We continually use community feedback to improve Proton Drive, ensuring our open-source(new window), independently audited apps keep getting better. Follow this page to stay up to date on the latest Proton Drive release notes, features, and improvements across our web, desktop, macOS, Android, and iOS apps.

2026

Here’s what we’ve delivered so far this year:

April

• Use currency and date localization in Proton Sheets. Select your country from Settings to automatically set the right currency and date format by default.

March

• Upload and download shared files faster. Shared files on Proton Drive download 70% faster, and uploads to shared folders are 30% faster, even if you don’t have a Proton Account.

February

• Scan and save documents on Android. Files are saved as PDFs, encrypted on your device, and securely stored in Proton Drive, ready to access or share.
• Proton Sheets receives important updates and fixes, including ODS import and export in beta, better XLSX handling, formula and shortcut fixes, corrected relative references, and improved input and formatting.
• Save files directly to Proton Drive on iOS, so you no longer have to download a file from the web just to reupload it in your secure cloud storage.

January

• Get faster, more reliable Proton Drive performance with the Proton Drive SDK that delivers up to 60% faster uploads on iOS, 30% faster uploads and 70% faster downloads on web, and better reliability on unstable networks.
• Upload entire folders to Proton Drive on Android. Not even Google Drive has this.
• Load your mobile gallery faster on Android and iOS, so you can spend less time waiting for your photos to appear and quickly find the one you need.

2025

Here’s a look back at the most important Proton Drive releases in 2025:

December

• Use Proton Sheets, our end-to-end encrypted spreadsheet app built into Proton Drive, to create private spreadsheets and collaborate in real time using familiar formulas, charts, conditional formatting, data validation, and more.

November

• Securely scan paper documents into PDFs that are encrypted on your device and safely stored in cloud storage with Proton Drive on iOS.

October

• Quickly find Screenshots, Portraits, Selfies, and Panoramas with new photo filters.

September

• Easily import photos and albums from Google Photos to Proton Drive using the Windows app.

June

• Upload and stream large videos such as films, docs, or hours of personal footage.
• Quickly scroll through your photo history with timeline view for web, Android, and iOS.

May

• Use a new color picker with live preview, copy text as Markdown, and move easily between folders without leaving your tab in Docs.
• Keep working on files without internet access on macOS using the “Make available offline” feature.
• Easily create, organize, and browse your photos by grouping memories into albums.
• Find and access documents faster using the new (new window)Proton Docs(new window) homepage.

April

• Download Proton Drive 2.0 for macOS and experience improved sync reliability, file management, and UI polish.
• Use the Optimize Storage feature in the Windows app for clearer sync status updates in File Explorer and greater control over which folders stay local or are offloaded automatically.

March

• Collect files and invite anyone to edit Proton Docs securely, even if they don’t have a Proton Account.
• Directly access files synced from your desktop through the new “Computers” tab on iOS.

February

• Load photos faster on Android and view sharper HD thumbnails.

January

• Receive email notifications when collaborators share or update documents in Docs.
• Use the Android app in 28 languages worldwide.
