If you know your password and want to change it, you need to log in to the web app.

1. Log in to your account at account.proton.me.

2. Click Settings → Go to settings → Account and password and then click Change password.

3. Enter your new password in the New password and Confirm new password fields and click Save.

If you've forgotten or lost your password, then you'll need to reset it. Proton doesn’t have access to your password, so we can’t reset it for you if you forget or lose it. But you can reset your password yourself if you’ve set an account recovery method.

One-factor authentication is something you know (your login details). Two-factor authentication (2FA) relies on an additional thing you have. In Proton’s case, it's a phone (or tablet) running an authenticator app. Unless an attacker both knows your login details and also has physical access to your phone, they can’t access your account.

To secure your Proton Account with 2FA, log in at account.proton.me and click Settings → Go to settings → Account and password → Passwords and toggle the Two-factor authentication switch on.

Scan the QR code we generate for you with your authenticator app and use it to generate one-time password (OTP) codes whenever you log into your Proton account from a new device.

Proton’s Easy Switch tool makes it very easy to import emails, calendars, and contacts, from other services, such as Google, Yahoo!, and Outlook. Simply click Settings → Go to settings → Import via Easy Switch, select which service you want to import from, and follow the step-by-step instructions.
