Proton

Today, we’re excited to announce new enhancements to Proton Drive’s sharing functionality, giving you greater control over who you share with and how you share your files and folders.

This feature builds on how sharing currently works in Drive by letting you share directly with specific people using their email addresses. You can set viewer or editor permissions and revoke access anytime, offering a much higher level of security and control. We’re rolling out these improvements to the entire Proton community over the next few days.

You’re in control, with more ways to share

From hackers to Big Tech companies, the internet is full of threats to the privacy of your photos, documents, and other personal files. Proton Drive uses a unique combination of end-to-end encryption and flexible sharing options to put you in control of your data.

You can already share files and folders of any size using secure links you can generate in one click. Now, you can also share files and folders directly with your recipients by entering their email addresses. It’s always end-to-end encrypted, and you have full control. You can designate recipients as viewers or editors, allowing them to view or modify folder contents as you prefer. You can also easily revoke access if you don’t want someone to see your contents anymore.

Whether you’re an artist sharing creative work, a parent sharing family memories, or a professional handling sensitive documents, this feature is designed to protect your data and help you collaborate easily.

How the new sharing feature works

  1. Select files or folders: Choose the files or folders you want to share from your Proton Drive.
  2. Add recipients: Enter the email addresses of the people you want to share with.
  3. Set permissions: Assign viewer or editor permissions to control access levels.
  4. Send securely: Recipients will receive an email with a unique secure link to access the shared files. This ensures that only the intended recipients can open the link.
  5. Manage access: You can revoke access or change permissions at any time, keeping you in full control of your data.

For now, all sharing features are available on the web and on the Proton Drive Android mobile app. We will be adding these features to iOS and desktop platforms soon.

Experience file sharing that puts your privacy first

With Proton Drive’s new sharing functionality, you can share files with confidence, knowing your data is protected with the most advanced encryption technologies.

The feature is free to use, and you get up to 5 GB of free storage when you sign up for a Proton Drive account. Upgrade to a paid subscription for more storage, premium features like version history, and to support our mission to build a more private internet.

Since we’re 100% supported by our subscribers, not advertisers or venture investors, we are committed to continuously improving our services to meet your privacy needs. Your feedback is invaluable to us. Please share your thoughts and let us know what you’d like to see us build next.

Thank you for being a part of the Proton community. Together, we are building a more private and secure internet.
