How to set up Proton Drive

Proton Drive is our secure cloud storage and file sharing app. Like Proton Mail, Proton Drive uses end-to-end encryption, meaning only you and those you share your files with can see or open them. Not even Proton has access.

You can quickly and securely share files and folders of all sizes and formats using our secure shareable links.

We explain how to get started with Proton Drive using the Proton Drive web app and mobile apps:

Proton Drive is available to everyone with a Proton plan, including Proton Free. The amount of available storage you have depends on your plan.

If you want to use Proton Drive and don’t yet have a Proton Account, sign up for Proton Drive now (or Proton Mail Plus if you want 15 GB of storage).

Once you have a Proton Account, here’s how to get started on the web and mobile apps.

Using the Proton Drive web app

You can access the Proton Drive web app in two ways:

Go to drive.proton.me(new window) in your browser and log in using your Proton Account username and password. If you don’t have a Proton Account, sign up for Proton Drive now.
Log in to any Proton service (for example, Proton Mail(new window)) using your browser and open Proton Drive using the app switcher.

You can upload files or folders to the Proton Drive web app in two ways:

Drag and drop files or folders into the main Proton Drive web window. You can upload multiple items at once, and they’ll be added to the folder you’re currently viewing.
Click the New upload or Upload file button to select files to upload or click Upload folder to select folders.

Select the files or folders you want.
Click Download.
Depending on your browser settings, choose where to save downloads and change the default file names.

You can download multiple items at once; your selection will be saved as a ZIP file.

You can use Proton Drive on Android or iOS (iPhone, iPad).

Set up Proton Drive from the Play Store(new window) or App Store(new window) (iOS).
Launch the app and log in using your Proton Account. Don’t have one yet? Create a Proton Drive account now.

Select Upload a file (Android) or Import file (iOS). You can also choose Upload a folder (Android only).

Choose items from your device. Proton Drive will immediately start uploading them; you’ll receive a notification when it’s done.
