How to use App Lock on Android

To protect your encrypted messages from falling into the wrong hands, you can enable the Auto-lock feature in the Proton Mail(nova janela) app.

This feature will prompt you to either enter a PIN code or use biometrics to open Proton Mail. You can set your device to automatically lock every time you close your app, or after a set amount of time.

Enable App lock

  1. Open the Proton Mail app and sign in.
  2. Tap the menu button and open Settings.

  1. Select between:

  • Secure with biometrics: Confirm by touching the fingerprint sensor zone on your phone. You can then change the auto-lock timer, switch to Secure with PIN (requires using your fingerprint), or disable App lock.

Change the Auto-lock timer

  1. Open the Proton Mail app and sign in with your Proton Account.
  2. Tap ☰ and open Settings.

  1. Go to App customizations.

  1. Open App lock.

  1. Tap the timer (for example, Immediately) under Auto-lock.

  1. Set the preferred auto-lock time, ranging from Immediately to After 60 minutes.

Disable App lock

  1. Open the Proton Mail app and sign in.
  2. Tap the menu button and open Settings.

  1. Open App lock.

  1. Select Don’t lock.
